When it comes to loving the land, cowboys and indians have a lot in common. When it comes to protecting the land, we are seeing one of the most historic, poetic, and powerful alliances imaginable emerging. Bill McKibben has announced that farmers, ranchers, and First Nations tribal communities will descend on Washington DC for Earth Day to set up camp near The White House as part of their Reject and Protect campaign against Keystone XL Pipeline. Simultaneously, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow and others have launched a campaign with Music Saves Mountains to stop mountaintop coal removal. Neil Young just completed a tour called Honour The Treaties which also includes contributions from Shepard Fairey that gives natives a voice in protecting their lands from oil and mineral exploitation.

All over the world on April 22 to celebrate Earthday, Unify is initiating a globally synchronized moment for ceremony, prayer, and meditation to honor our sacred Mother Earth. You can visit their website and register an event in your community. Unify’s recent #lovewater campaign had over 300 events globally. It is clear everywhere you look, people who are awake are Unanimous in their love of the land and their determination to Protect The Sacred.
